Chinese Premier Li Keqiang likely to visit India next month
It will be a summer of rapprochement between India and China. Only last month Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met new Chinese President Xi Jinping and now preparations have begun for the new Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s expected visit next month.
Diplomatic sources say Li’s visit will be a part of a series of high level visits that the two countries have agreed to exchange to normalize relationship between the two Asian giants.
Sources say while the dates of the visit are yet to be finalized, diplomatic missions of both the countries have suggested two sets of dates in May and June.
Li (57) is considered a Liberal in the Chinese leadership. He had advocated economic restructuring in the country. His visit is likely to improve economic ties with India.
This is for the first time that Beijing will discuss the post 2014 scenario in Kabul, when the majority of the foreign troops will exit Afghanistan. They will also discuss the threat from the Taliban and rise of Islamic fundamentalism.
It is also expected that with Li’s visit, the boundary negotiations may get some political direction that is the need of the hour. While these visits help address some of the contentious issue, it remains to be seen if the new Chinese Premier, on his first visit to the country, will be willing to have some accommodation on Arunachal Pradesh, which China still considers disputed.
